The NESPT is celebrating its 40th Anniversary this year!
The Trust was officially incorporated on the 3 July 1985, through an initiative led by Grampian Regional Council and the Scottish Civic Trust. It initially operated as a traditional building preservation trust on a ‘revolving fund’ basis, where the profit from one project went directly into funding the next.
The Trust’s first project was at 12 North High Street in Portsoy in 1987. Since then the Trust has delivered over 50 historic building related projects, including numerous feasibility studies and options appraisals supporting other organisations to take on historic buildings, as well as managing its own projects.
Since 2024 the NESPT has become owner of a number of historic buildings at Portsoy Old Harbour through the generous legacy of the late Tom Burnett-Stuart, which includes the Portsoy Marble Shop and holiday cottages, both of which provide valuable income to the Trust, which is reinvested into the work the Trust undertakes.
To mark the occasion we have been very lucky to work with one of our volunteers Kelly Morrison who has produced a short film explaining more about the work of the Trust, its history and plans for the future, including the Portsoy Marbles Creative Hub, which we are in the process of applying for funding for.
