NESPT is employed by Cullen and Deskford Parish Church as Fundraising Consultant and Project Coordinator.
The Kirk is category A listed. The project involves the refurbishment and updating of the fabric together with a new, sustainable heating system and the provision of interpretation.
NESPT has raised a total of £426,140 in grant funding towards the project.
Phase 1 of the work was to involve the installation of a new air to air heat pump system. This would have been possible thanks for the offer of grant of £101,340 from the Scottish Government’s Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES).
Phase 2 was to involve essential repairs to the Kirk, improved access and facilities, and the provision of enhanced interpretation of its fascinating history and heritage. This would have been possible thanks to the offer of grant funding from the Heritage Fund, Historic Environment Scotland, the Wolfson Foundation and the Garfield Weston Foundation.
In early 2023 the Church of Scotland decided that the Kirk was surplus to requirements and should be disposed of. The Parish Church was forbidden to start the project and was instructed to decline all the offers of funding. The NESPT has expressed an interest in acquiring the Kirk from the Church of Scotland. If this proves possible the Trust will work with the local community in Cullen to resurrect the refurbishment project and carry out all the improvement works.
