The Stag & Thistle Hotel & Restaurant (Formerly John Trail Bookshop), Fraserburgh

Work to convert the former John Trail Bookshop on Mid Street in Fraserburgh into a hotel started at the end of June 2020, following a three-month delay caused by the restrictions of the COVID-19 lockdown.

The Stag & Thistle

The building is owned by the NESPT and grant funding was provided by the Fraserburgh 2021 Heritage Regeneration Scheme (a partnership between Aberdeenshire Council, the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Historic Environment Scotland), the Aberdeenshire Town Centre Fund, the Aberdeenshire Council Regeneration Programme and the Aberdeenshire Place Based Investment Programme.

The project was completed at the end of February 2022. The former bookshop is now an 11-bedroom boutique hotel and restaurant, which opened in April 2023.
